Coal accounts for 60 percent of exports

The National Statistics Committee presented the social and economic indicators of Mongolia for the first five months of 2024. In the first 5 months of 2024, our country traded with a total of 145 countries, and the total foreign trade turnover reached 10.8 billion US dollars. Out of this, exports reached 6.4 billion US dollars, imports reached 4.4 billion US dollars, and the balance showed a profit of 2.0 billion US dollars.

Exports in the first 5 months of 2024 increased by 74.9 million US dollars from the same period last year, including coal 172.9 million US dollars, copper concentrate 54.9 million US dollars, iron ore and concentrate 41.9 million US dollars, unprocessed or semi-processed gold 39.5 million US dollars. It was mainly influenced by the increase in dollars respectively.

Zinc ore and concentrate decreased by 74.4 million US dollars, and canned meat products decreased by 47.8 million US dollars. In May 2024, exports increased by 131.4 (10.2%) million US dollars from the previous month, while imports decreased by 43.1 (4.3%) million US dollars.

65.6% of the goods exported to China are coal and 19.6% are copper concentrates, while 99.8% of the goods exported to Switzerland are unprocessed or semi-processed gold.
