The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Mongolian National Mining Association will work together.

A cooperation agreement has been signed between the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Department and the Mongolian National Mining Association (MMNA) as part of a 160 million MNT funded project to develop training and guidance for mining companies to improve their environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance and to implement activities aimed at the development of local communities.

The main objective of the project is to support mining companies in introducing sustainable development principles in line with international standards and best practices and will be implemented in the following areas.

These include:

  • Implementing training and capacity building programs in the field
  •  of environmental, social and governance,
  • Developing a guide and methodology for mining companies,
  • Organizing events to support the livelihoods and development of local communities.

This agreement is part of the work implemented within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Department and the Mongolian Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, and is of great importance for strengthening governance and social responsibility in the mining sector in Mongolia.
